FORMER senator Richard Gordon over the weekend lashed out at the Commision on Elections (Comelec) for allegedly not fully implementing the Automated Election Law, particularly its safety features that can prevent election frauds.

“Why won’t Comelec implement this law especially its security features? …They never once implemented it,” Gordon said during a news conference here on Saturday.

Gordon said it was because of this that he filed a complaint against the Comelec before the Supreme Court so that the poll body would fully implement the Automated Election Law.

He said voters should be given the “Voters’ Verified Paper Audit Trail” that would serve as receipts to avoid election fraud.

“If we go to grocery, we get receipts from the cashier which indicate what we bought. But when we vote for our candidates, we are not given any receipt by Comelec. This is the purpose of the ‘Voter’s Verified Paper Trail,’” said Gordon. (nitz arancon)
