MAYOR Oscar Moreno yesterday said the local chapter of the administration Liberal Party (LP) has suspended all its political activities in the city in observance of the Holy Week.
Moreno said he directed all LP members here to call off all political dialogues and gatherings down to the village level starting yesterday until Good Friday.
He said no LP political worker and politician, especially candidates here, is allowed by the party to engage in political activities or even to campaign for the group’s national candidates in religious sites like Malasag and Guadalupe particularly on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.
Moreno said that while the campaign period officially starts on Saturday, the local LP would formally start campaigning on Monday or after Easter.
Meanwhile, the city council suspended its session yesterday in observance of the Holy Week.
Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr. said council members approved the suspension of the session in March 14, and all of them agreed to meet again on Monday.
“Wala may among session karon pero busy gihapon kami kay mibisita man kami sa among mga constituent.” Lao said.
At the capitol, the provincial board had no quorum yesterday, said Misamis Oriental Vice Gov. Jose Mari Pelaez.
“The board members are not available,” said Pelaez without elaborating. (nitz arancon)
