BUTUAN City — Carmen, Agusan del Norte Municipal Police Station headed by the town’s chief of police Senior Insp. Edgar Allan Cerdeòa confirmed that the kidnapping and death threats against Carmen Mayor Ramon Calo was issued by New People’s Army.

Cerdeòa, the town’s chief of police confirmed an estimated 50 NPA rebels formed road blocks along national highway in Baran-gay Rojales, Carmen, Agu-san del Norte last Saturday morning.

Earlier NPA rebels issued warnings to the candidates not to accompany armed security escorts in their controlled areas.

The communist rebels fled after nearly one hour of conducting checkpoint or road blocks that stranded many motorists and passengers of public utility vehicles that lined up.

Police claimed they are conducting manhunt operations against the NPA rebels.
