Acting city prosecutor Romeo Julius Bomediano, in a nine-page resolution in April 18, approved the filing of criminal charges, and because he found no evidence against Amante and the BAC members.

Amante’s group filed the complaint against the barangay chairperson after they accused the local officials of plunder before the Office of the Ombudsman in November 2015.

The barangay officials alleged that plunder was committed in connection with the P193-million Butuan City Polysports Complex project. They also accused the local officials of graft, grave misconduct, gross neglect of duty, and conduct prejudicial to the best of interests of the public.

Amante and the BAC members strongly denied the allegations, and accused the complainants of fabricating  stories.

The barangay officials were linked to the mayor’s election challenger Engr. Ronnie Vicente Lagnada.

In February, Amante filed his complaint against the barangay chairpersons before the prosecutor’s office. He said he and his family were embarrassed, and annoyed by the alleged falsehood. He also accused them of maliciously making false testimonies and untruthful accusations under oath.
