ILIGAN City – Board of Canvassers (BOCs) formally proclaimed winning candidates in Iligan City.

The BOC, chaired by Atty. Ramil Acol, acting city election officer, certified under oath that they have duly canvassed the votes cast in 245 precincts for all the candidates in the May 9 elections.

Congressman-elect for Lone District of Iligan Frederick Siao obtained 34,222 votes, leads among eight other congressional candidates.

Re-elected Mayor Celso Regencia  garnered 68,995 votes, a landslide win over his opponent, incumbent Vice Mayor Rudy Marzo with only 37,029.

While vice mayor-elect Jemar Vera Cruz has an offshoot lead of 61,417 votes over incumbent city councilor Providencio Abragan’s 48,716.

For Sangguniang Panglunsod seat, Samuel Huertas, a second termer, took the lead with 68,761; Eric Capitan, 55,817; Jake Balanay, 53,294; Demosthenes Plando, 49,107; Belinda Lim, 48,874; Sorilie Bacsarpa, 48,265; Rosevi Queenie Belmonte, 48,108; Ian Uy, 46,835; Randy Ryan Francis Ong, 45,812; Bernard Pacaña, 44,280; Petronilo Pardillo, 42,845; and Renato Ancis, 42,080 votes.

Atty. Acol clarified that it’s the machine generating the proclamation, and that they just read it and announced the result. Having said that the person to be proclaimed need not to be present, the raising of hands is just a ceremonial. This explained the situation of the detained Mayor Regencia, who was represented by his daughter Bembem during the proclamation.

Congressman-elect Siao when asked about his plans, he said that initially will set down with the local officials to plan ahead of what their vision for Iligan. We, the congressional office can be partners with the local government.

“I believe with the new administration coming in, everything will be okay. What is best is that we should be on the level, calling on Iliganons to be united and that political fever should be out,” Siao said. pia
