COUNCILORS on Monday killed the motion of losing congressional candidate Lourdes Darimbang that sought the local legislature’s support for her electoral protest against Rep. Rolando Uy of the city’s 1st District.

When Councilor Darimbang moved for the passage of a resolution in her favor, her colleagues opted to keep mum–no one seconded the motion.

Despite her failure to win the support of her colleagues in the city council, Darimbang proceeded to file her electoral protest before the House of Representatives Electoral Tribunal yesterday.

The silence prompted Councilor Ramon Tabor, who presided over the session of the city council, to declare Darimbang’s motion killed.

Tabor, who also lost in the congressional race in the city’s 2nd District, advised Darimbang to bring her case to the House tribunal. He explained to Darimbang that she really did not need a resolution from the city council.

“This is an election matter,  and any grievance  that you may have,  you can direct it to the proper  forum,” said Tabor, adding that the city council cannot support any move that  pertains to an election matter.

After Tabor’s gave the advise, Councilor Teodulfo Lao Jr. suggested that discussions on Darimbang’s proposed resolution be deferred. He said the council’s committee on laws and rules can study it first.

Councilor Zaldy Ocon said he disagreed with Lao. He asserted that the proposed resolution be rejected.

“I don’t see any valid reason to refer it to the committee on laws and rules… The fight of the good councilor is beyond our duties,” Ocon said.

But Darimbang forced the issue and moved for a reconsideration from the city council. Still, no councilor seconded the motion.

“There being no second, Councilor Darimbang, your motion for reconsideration  is denied,” Tabor said.

During a news conference yesterday, Darimbang said she did not take the rejection against any member of the city council.

“No hurt feelings on my  part inspite the fact (sic) that they denied  my proposed resolution,” Darimbang said. “I’m not worried with their denial (sic).”
