BUTUAN City–The Commission on Higher Education (Ched) has slapped a school here with a cease-and-desist order.

The school, Colegio de Liga ng mga Barangay in Barangay Banza, is being administered by Councilor Nestor Amora. The councilor is the president of the city’s Liga ng mga Barangay.

The Ched en banc issued the one-page order against  the school over its failure to submit requirements needed for higher education institutions of learning.

The school has been offering college, technical-vocational and entrepreneurship courses. The school’s students are mostly beneficiaries of scholarship grants of local governments in the city and elsewhere in Caraga.

The en banc noted that the school was given a temporary permit to operate four years ago and yet it still failed to comply with the government’s requirements.

Engr. Ramil Sanchez of the Ched regional office said copies of the cease-and-desist order were furnished to different members of the Liga and Councilor Amora.

Amora said the order was a “big blow to poor but deserving students” who would be forced to stop going to school this year.

He denied that there were no efforts to comply with the Ched requirements, adding that all they need is a little more time to complete everything.

Amora said he and other officials of Liga suspect that the move to stop the operations of the school was politically motivated.

Amora has brought the matter to a court, and asked for a temporary restraining order against the Ched ruling.
