BUTUAN City — Police operatives seized some 8,000 board feet of hardwood Lauan species, with an estimated worth of P140 thousand, at the river bank of Barangay Carromata, San Miguel town, Surigao del Sur, reports reaching the Police Regional Office 13 reads.

Chief of Police Insp. Zaldy Maestre identified the suspected owners of the hardwood lumber as Tirso Iligan and Bobong Bangkiawan, both indigenous people from Barangay Hinapuyan, Carmen, Surigao del Sur.

San Miguel Police report stated the lumber were transported by the lumads through rafting, who eventually abandoned the lumber upon sensing the approaching police officers.

Police said the vehicle used by suspected timber poachers to transport said hot lumber at the river bank was also confiscated.

San Miguel Police are currently in custody of the confiscated items.

Illegal logging is now allegedly back in business again in Caraga Region.
