Talking to reporters, Jonrey Tordillo, 25, married, fought back tears as he admitted he killed Vergara, but denied raping nor stabbing his former girlfriend.

Prior to her death, Tordillo said he and Vergara had a fight as she insisted in going to his mother-in-law’s house to meet his wife and child.

He said he refused since he doesn’t want his family to know he was having an affair with a co-employee.

Tordillo recalled he accidentally hit Vergara when she bit him as they were on their way to his mother-in-law’s house.

Gipa-ak man niya (Vergara) mao to nga akong nawitikan sa akong kamot ang iyang liog,” he said.

Tordillo’s punch rendered Vergara unconscious and believing he killed her, he dragged his former girlfriend to a corner.

He said he went to Cagayan de Oro after the incident and fled to Luzon where he hid from the police while working in Pasay City.

Orculio said Tordillo was arrested after following his wife who visited him.

Police said Tordillo was in hiding for more than a year in Luzon before law enforcers caught him there.

Senior Inspector Cecilio Orculio, Talisayan police chief, said Tordillo, from Barangay Bonbon here, was arrested by the Bulacan police through a warrant issued by Judge Dan Calderon of the Regional Trial Court Branch 26 in Medina, Misamis Oriental, last May 4.

Orculio said Tordillo is the primary suspect in the killing of Devine Grace Vergara, of Barangay Balulang, in Barangay Sindangan, Talisayan, on December 15, 2014.

He said Tordillo and Vergara, who were co-workers, were in a relationship prior to the incident.

According to police, before Vergara had been gone missing for a few days until her body was discovered on December 27, 2014.

Already in the state of decay, Vergara’s body was found naked and bore three stab wounds in a secluded area, which led police to believe she was raped before killed.

The suspect will be brought to the court in Talisayan for a hearing today, Orculio said.
