A barangay chairman and a barangay councilor have been tagged by officials of Balingasag Municipal Police is among those personalities involved in drug trafficking business in their area of responsibilities.

Over the weekend, Balingasag municipal police station chief Chief Insp. Arnold Gaabucayan revealed during police radio program that local barangay officials were among their target for anti-drug operation.

Gaabucayan said they are currently conducting massive information on ‘Operation Tokhang’ to the municipal level as part of the all-out war by the incoming administration in curbing down illegal drug distribution.

He said the name of barangay officials were included in the list –– composed one barangay chairman and a barangay councilor.

He said for the past two years they had already arrested and filed cases against 30 drug personalities. This includes influential families in the municipalities.

He added that members of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Badac) has sent comprehensive names of drug personalities in the municipal level which reached to not less than 300 names.

Meanwhile, another batch of self-confessed drug personalities has voluntarily forwarded in Barangay Agusan, this city.

City Police Director Senior Supt. Faro Antonio Olaguera said the local barangay officials in barangay Agusan headed by Barangay Chairman Andrew Melissa that at least 50 suspected drug pushers and users have already turned themselves in and promised to stop their involvement with illegal drugs.

Olaguera said they would recommended those who are already hooked on drugs for rehabilitation.

TD ‘Ambo’ weakens

PUBLIC storm warning signal has been lifted as tropical depression “Ambo” has weakened into a low pressure area after making landfall in Aurora province yesterday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In an interview, Pagasa weather forecaster Robert Badrina said “Ambo” made landfall in Dinalungan, Aurora around 12:30 a.m.

Badrina said that as of 4 a.m., the LPA was spotted west of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.

He said the LPA has a slim chance to re-intensify into tropical depression since it is in the land and expected to dissipate.

However, Badrina said the LPA will bring rains in northern Luzon while the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affecting Mindanao.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms will prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

Moderate to strong winds blowing from the southeast will prevail over Morthern and Central Luzon and coming from the southwest to southeast over the rest of Luzon. The coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough.

Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the southwest to southeast with slight to moderate seas.

The state weather bureau has not issued gale warning as the fisherfolks are safe to venture into the seas. (pna)
