MAGSAYSAY, Davao del Sur — Mayor Arthur Davin believes that adopting a reward system to individuals who could help the government in its campaign against the proliferation of illegal drugs is one of the best idea to step-up the morale of law enforcers and civilians, as well.

Davin, speaking to the media following the inauguration of its P42-million modern town hall on Tuesday said it has been his practice since he assumed office, three years ago, by allocating funds as incentives to the police and other law enforcement agencies operating in his area of responsibility.

“We are always behind legitimate operations to stop the spread of prohibited drugs in our community. It could destroy the lives and sanity of my constituents, so we have to stop those responsible for such attempt in the process,” Davin said.

Davin will be serving his second term as mayor of Magsaysay town after an overwhelming majority vote against his closest rival, former Mayor Jess Lumanog, in the May 9 polls. It was Lumanog’s second defeat in his quest to the mayoral seat against Davin.

In another development, Davin expressed gratitude to outgoing Governor Claude Bautista for extending full support to his effort to inject more development projects in the community, specially in the far flung and remote areas that are in dire need of government support.

Bautista also allocated P10 million to purchase furniture and fixtures to the newly inaugurated government building.

“I was very elated with the governor’s overwhelming support to our community. His financial support did not go in vain; since the building materials pulled out from the old structures including its aging furniture and fixtures were donated without cost to some villages so that they could still utilize it until it breaks down,” Davin said.

Davin said he is preparing the town to accommodate more investors. On June 17, a P72-million road concreting project in Barangay Bacungan was formally opened including a P7.9-million potable water system in Barangay Glamang funded by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) under the Mindanao Sustainable Agrarian and Agricultural Development (MinSAAD) program.

The Magsaysay town is also set to distribute 25,000 seedling of cacao, coconut and coffee to the farmers in the upland villages to boost the earnings of the people living in the remote community.
