The announcement came the same day President Duterte relieved and ordered investigated police generals whom he accused of being protectors of illegal drug groups.

Those Duterte publicly named them as he spoke during the 69th anniversary of the Philippine Air Force were retired National Police deputy chief for administration Marcelino Garbo Jr., Chief Supt. Joel Pagdilao, Chief Supt. Edgardo Tinio, former Davao region police director Bernardo Diaz, and now Daanbantayan, Cebu Mayor Vicente Loot.

Here, Camp Alagar spokesman Supt. Surki Sereñas said police regional director Chief Supt. Lyndel Desquitado received the report on the drug test results from Senior Supt.  Felipe Abingan,  chief of the PNP Crime Laboratory in the Region. Not one of the officials subjected to examination tested negative for drug use.

The police officials included city and provincial police office directors, and regional chiefs of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Maritime Group,  Highway Patrol Group (HPG), and Regional Intelligence Unit, among others.

“All specimens showed negative for drugs use,” Abingan stated in his report to Desquitado.

Sereñas said the drug tests came as a surprise to the officials.

He said more drug tests would be conducted, and the next to be surprised are  the junior  police officers.
