BUTUAN City–An Anti-Illegal Drug Special Task Group on Thursday killed an ex-policeman and arrested four of his alleged companions in a house that was allegedly turned into a drug den in in Barangay Ambago, this city.

The house in Purok 8, Barangay Ambago, belonged to the slain former policeman identified as Rex Bolambot Ofianga, 37, who had held the rank of police officer 3 (PO3).

PO3 Anthony Echin of the Butuan City Central Police Office said four of Ofianga’s companions were arrested after they allegedly yielded sachets of suspected shabu. They were identified as Orlando Tolibas Gingoyon, 51, of Purok-7, Barangay 17 Port Poyohon; Rodolfo Guzon Gilsano, 44, of Purok-3B, Barangay Bading; Silvestre Limatoria Batolanon, 43, of Purok-2A, Bading, and Jessie Sangalla Balane, 35, married, of Purok-8, Barangay Doongan Relocation Site.

The police team, headed by Insp. Salvador Cagadas, went to the ex-policeman’s house at around 2 pm to serve a search warrant issued by Judge Godofredo Abul Jr..

Allegedly, Ofianga drew a caliber .38 revolver and took cover inside his room. An assault team then shot him in the back. He died instantaneously.

Police said Ofianga also had a grenade and suspected shabu estimated to amount to P23,600.

Police said one of those arrested yielded a piece paper with details of alleged illegal transactions, and a mobile phone.

The other suspects also allegedly yielded sachets of suspected shabu and mobile phones.

An official of the Butuan City Police Station 3 said Ofianga had long been in the list of “drug personalities” in Butuan.
