THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) yesterday seized some P10 million worth of automotive and truck spare parts at Mindanao International Container Terminal (MICT) in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

Officials alleged that the broker and consignee misdeclared the cargoes.

District collector Ruby Claudia Alameda ordered the seizure of at least five container vans that had “chop-chop” spare parts.

Four of the allegedly misdeclared container vans were traced to Transport Automotive Sales Corp. at Pag-asa St. Anabu I-C Cuenca Subdivision, Imus in Cavite.

The cargoes were shipped from Koshigaya City, Sai Tama, Japan by Zulfiqar Motors and Ham Mi International Company of Korea.

The fifth container van was traced to Baros Kenjiemael Import/Export Trading of Block 14, Lot 6 Phase 2, NHA-Kauswagan, this city. The cargo came from Himalaya Trade Network of Niigata, Japan.

“This is a continuing effort of the anti-smuggling and anti-corruption group of the Collection District 10 to get rid of misdeclared cargoes that enter our port area,” Alameda said.

She said the consignee failed to show clearance and import authority  from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Alvin Enciso, chief of the Custom Intelligence and Investigation Services here, said Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon has a standing order to track down misdeclared and smuggled items outside the ports of Metro Manila.

“The four containers were misdeclared as cabin and truck parts assembly,” he said.

Enciso said the fifth container is covered by complete clearance from the DTI but there was a problem with the consignee’s name and it could be considered technical smuggling.
