THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Region 10 is now helping in monitoring cargoes at the Mindanao International Container Port (MICT).

Alvin Enciso, chief of the Custom Intelligence and Investigation Services (CIIS) of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) here, said the move is part of the government’s war on illegal drugs.

He said the government is anticipating that the drug trade could shift to areas outside Metro Manila and use ports.

PDEA, Enciso said, would be using highly trained dogs as narcotics agents watch out for illegal drugs.

“These dogs are more effective than humans in terms of checking cargoes with suspected drugs inside,” he said.

The BOC would also be assisted by the Maritime Police, Coast Guard (PCG), Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Army, National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (Nica) and the National Police.
