THE Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has started an investigation into the alleged extrajudicial killings in Region 10.

Lawyer Jerefe Bacang, CHR director for northern  Mindanao, said at least 20 cases of alleged extrajudicial killings have been noted by the Commission in Region 10 alone.

“Dili pa nato ma-divulge  ang tanang detalyi kay on the process pa man ang    atong investigation,” he said.

Bacang said the cases include vigilante-style killings, and the shooting deaths of drug suspects who allegedly fought back while authorities were arresting them.

He said the investigations would determine if drug suspects really fought back or if these were cases of rubout or if there were abuses.

But while the CHR is looking into the alleged abuses, police said its campaign against the illegal drugs trade resulted in a big catch in Region 10–some P13.5 million in illegal drugs  since it launched the war on illegal drugs in July 1.

Senior Supt. Danilo Maligalig, deputy regional director for administration  at Camp Alagar, said police seized 2.5 kilograms of shabu, and 2.4 kilograms of marijuana.

Maligalig said police also “visited” 28,652 households and some 74,254 suspected drug users and pushers responded to the “Oplan Tokhang” campaign in the region. Some 766 suspected drug pushers were arrested and 744 others were charged in court.

Maligalig said police killed 18 suspects who fought back during the operations in the region during the first two months.
