THE Parents-Teachers Association of the Pedro “Oloy” N. Roa Senior High School in Sitio Calaanan, Barangay Canito-an has signed a waiver to allow guards to thoroughly inspect the belongings of all students entering the campus.

This came following the stabbing death of Science teacher Vilma Cabactulan in class by one of her 9th grade students last week, a crime that stunned the city.

Councilor Suzette Magtajas Daba, chairperson of the city council’s committee on education, said the waiver was signed as part of measures intended to ensure the safety of teachers and students alike.

Over 50 teachers of the school have expressed fears that they would be attacked. Daba said the teachers were becoming “paranoid” because of what happened to the 43-year old Cabactulan who died in the hands of a 15-year old student.

Councilor George Goking suggested that all PTAs of public schools in the city should organize safety committees as their contribution in efforts to keep the campuses safe.

“The effective use of the PTA is less expensive but it’s very effective,” Goking said.

Councilor Romeo Calizo said the proposed security committees could include members of the police and Ronda Tanod members. (nitz arancon)
