Speaking during the inauguration of the Filinvest Development Corp.’s 405-mw coal-fired power plant in Misamis Oriental, Duterte said industrialized countries now pushing their climate change advocacy were the first to damage the environment using coal-fired power plants.

Duterte said that after causing much damage, these nations now want developing countries to slow down on their carbon emissions.

Meanwhile, the President lauded the family of Jonathan Gotianun, FDC chairman, for the new power plant that is seen to significantly boost Mindanao’s power-generating capacity.

Lourdes Josephine Yap, the firm’s president and chief executive officer, said, “We want to help this administration by providing power at the most affordable cost and in the most reliable way with technology that protects thr environment.”

Juan Eugenio Roxas, senior vice president and chief business development head of FDC-Misamis Power Corp., said the new power plant uses state-of-the-art technology to make it environment-friendly.

The power plant was constructed for two years within a 80-hectare Phividec property at Sitio Tamnobong, Barangay Balacanas in Villanueva town.
