The Task Force Bote-Bote identified the suspects as Reymark Bonbon, 35, of Don Carlos, Bukidnon, and Jason Villa, 27, of Sitio Berjaya, Barangay Camaman-an, this city.

The two were caught selling fuel in Sitio Patrick Cronin in Barangay Lapasan by task force members from the city hall and the police on Thursday.

Agora police chief Arnel Polo said the suspects violated City Ordinance 13121-2016 that prohibits the sale or retail of fuel without permit.

Chief Insp. Polo said Bonbon and Villa were charged with violation of the new city law before the City Prosecutor’s Office (CPO) yesterday.

The two suspects are being detained at the Agora police station at presstime.

Task force members Edsel Mark Balintag and Greg Caayupan said they caught the suspects illegally dispensing and selling to a motorist a liter of gasoline in  a bottle of softdrink.

They said the bottle was seized along with 35 empty plastic gallons that showed signs these had contained fuel.

The ordinance provides that “any person, natural and juridical, found peddling, vending, retailing and selling… liquid petroleum products, shall be penalized by a fine of not less than P3,000 but not more than P5,000 or imprisonment of not less than six months but not more than one year or both such fine and imprisonment at the discretion of the court.”

City hall announced that it would continue to crackdown on those selling bootleg fuel in violation of local and national laws, and which pose safety risks to the public.
