AUTHORITIES on Sunday arrested a man and his common law wife on suspicion that they were behind a robbery staged at Villa Ernesto in Gusa here a day earlier.

The suspects–Eliton Rivera, 22, of Zone 3, Villanueva, Misamis Oriental, and Queenie Padernal, 20, of Baloi, Barangay Tablon here–were also linked to illegal drugs, officials said.

Chief Insp. Ariel Polo,  chief of the Agora police, said Rivera and Padernal were caught during a buy-and-bust operation carried out by the Jasaan police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Kimaya, Jasaan, Misamis Oriental at around 4:50 pm on Sunday.

Polo said the suspects were caught with suspected shabu and their Villa Ernesto loot.

Police said the duo were responsible for carting away some P500 thousand worth of expensive gadgets and pieces of jewelry from the house of Celestino Lim, 45, of Villa Ernesto subdivision in Gusa.

Polo said the suspects, who also yielded P48 thousand in bank checks, were behind the robbery carried out at around 1:20 pm on Saturday.

The suspects were detained at the Agora police station and charges were being prepared against them for robbery and illegal drug possession. (nitzarancon)
