AUTHORITIES are looking into reports that kidnap victim Enrique “Eking” Fernandez III died a violent death in the hands of the very people who were supposed to protect the innocent.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Camp Alagar officials told the public safety committee of the provincial board on Wednesday said investigators have not ruled out the possibility that the 33-year old Fernandez was already dead.

NBI regional director Cesar  Bacani and Chief Supt. Danilo Maligalig, deputy director  for administration of Camp Alagar, told the Pelaez committee that investigators were checking information that Fernandez was murdered and his remains were burned and buried in a shallow grave either in Bukidnon or Balingasag town in Misamis Oriental.

The officials said the reports were still unconfirmed.

“We are in the process of validating all information we’ve  got,” Bacani said.

Bacani and Maligalig went public with the “raw information” after when Fernandez’s 61-year old mother Jean Theresa asked Pelaez and his committee for help in the hope of finding her son, dead or alive.

“Siyaro, Mr. General (Maligalig), usa ka ka bulan karon, wala pa gyud mo masayod   asa ang akong anak?” asked Mrs. Fernandez, nearly breaking down before the committee. (nitz arancon and lito rulona)
