BUTUAN City–A police trainee died after a mandatory 16-kilometer evaluation run last week.

Police identified the fatality as PO1 Junry Baguhian, a trainee in the Public Safety Field Training Program at the Caraga PNP Regional Training Center in Surigao City.

Police said Baguhian joined a 16-kilometer evaluation run at about 2:30 pm on Dec. 7. The mandatory run is part of a one-month evaluation and assessment.

Subsequently, Baguhian started to feel dizzy on the road near the St. Jude Thaddeus Institute of Technology, prompting his companions to rush him to the Caraga Regional Hospital.

Hours later, he was moved to the MJ Santos Hospital in Butuan. He died in the hospotal at around 3 am the same day, Dec. 8.

Police said the physician declared him dead due to “cardiogenic shock, status epilepticu, hypoglycaemia.”

Caraga police director Chief Supt. Rolando Felix said Baguhian’s family would receive benefits.

But Felix clarified that the trainings for police cadets are under the direct supervision and control of the Philippine National Public Safety College, and not with the National Police.
