A CITY council committee demanded that Task Force Hapsay Dalan chairman Jose Edgardo Uy submit a comprehensive traffic plan before the month ends even as its chairman frowned over the city’s traffic czar’s failure to show up during yesterday’s meeting of the committee that was looking into the worsening traffic problem, including last week’s clearing operations around Cogon market.

Councilor Romeo Calizo expressed disappointment over Uy’s no-show during the meeting of the city council’s police, fire and public safety committee.

Calizo noted that Roads and Traffic Administration  (RTA) chief Nonito Oclarit also failed to come.

The RTA was represented by Engr. Sherwin Cabactulan, traffic engineering chief.

Calizo told Cabactulan during the meeting to relay his message to Uy. “Palihog ko, engineer be, kon nay ingon-ani gani  nga mga meetings, palihog lang og sulti ni Atty. Uy ba, mag-attend siya. He  has first-hand (information about the) traffic situation in our city. We need his presence now, and he should be the first one to hear our comments regarding traffic management.”

The councilor said he felt bad because Uy was invited to the committee meeting by him, and he was a no-show.

Calizo lost his cool when he asked Cabactulan to provide the committee traffic reports during the Jan. 9 Black Nazarene procession in the city.

He told Cabactulan to inform Uy that the Task Force Hapsay Dalan-RTA only has until Jan. 26 to submit the required comprehensive traffic plan “para ma-feel sad namo nga na-a moy feeling of concern sa   inyong opisina, sa traffic problem sa Cagayan  de Oro.”

Calizo said the worsening traffic situation has become a primary problem in the city.

Cabactulan subsequently told the Gold Star Daily that Uy failed to come because he attended a funeral.

Councilor Edna Dahino said Calizo did the right thing in giving Uy the Jan. 26 ultimatum, pointing out that she has been seeking the comprehensive plan as early as December.

Dahino said what was submitted to the city council was an incomprehensive plan that was lacking and apparently hurriedly written.

“Na-feel na nako… I’m sorry for being honest… na-feel ko lang   nga  basin dili na kana sila ma-pressure kay approved na man ilang budget sa RTA,” Dahino said.
