THE sun shone brightly here for the first time after days of gloomy semidarkness caused by cloud covers, and it’s likely going to be the same today.
The situation in the city started to normalize yesterday after the destructive floods on Monday that were spawned by a low-pressure area, a tail-end of a cold front, and an old and clogged drainage system that proved to be wanting for a growing city like Cagayan de Oro.
Jose Frivaldo, a government weather specialist based in El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, said the weather conditions in Mindanao improved on Thursday night, and it would likely be the same today.
At 1 am yesterday, Mindanao was free from the tail-end of a cold front that headed towards Visayas.
“Didto na pud karon sa Visayas ang dunay widespread nga pag-ulan,” said Frivaldo.
At 11 pm on Thursday, Mayor Oscar Moreno said classes should resume.
“I should add that it’s about time that we begin to develop and build confidence that will help people overcome the trauma that the flooding had caused,” said Moreno.
Alan Porcadilla, head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Department, said city hall has lifted the color-coded warning in the city.
“Normal na tanan, salamat sa tanan nga mitabang sa atong rescue operation sa milabay nga calamity,” Porcadilla said.
Frivaldo however said Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental may still see “localized thunderstorms” or light to moderate rains especially in the afternoon and evening.
He said the rains would not be widespread unlike what the city experienced on Monday.
