COUNCILOR Edna Dahino on Monday said the increase that business establishments noted in their local taxes was due to the local tax code approved by the city council in 2015.

Dahino said this even as she denied that the present city council had anything to do with the increase.

She assured that city hall would not increase local taxes this year.

Dahino, chairperson of the city council’s finance and appropriations committee, said, “Ang 18th Council karonwala man maghimog ordinansa aron ipa-increase sa 15 percent ang tax rate ning atong syudad.”

The increase, she said, is due to a provision in the 2015 tax code that imposes a 15-percent gross sales tax ceiling.

In order to pay less, Dahino said, business establishments would need to show city hall their financial records.
