Surigao police director Supt. Noel Salvosa said 47-year old Surigao city prosecutor Manuel Tesiorna Jr. was shot to the neck, chest, stomach and back by still unidentified men at around 7:05 am.

Tesiorna was in his garage when he was attacked by the gunmen on a motorcycle.

The prosecutor was rushed to a hospital in Surigao. Subsequently, he  was airlifted to Cebu.

Just this Feb. 1, a retired Surigao del Norte judge, Victor Canoy, was attacked the same way near his home in Surigao City. Canoy was killed.

Canoy’s family has offered P100 thousand as reward to anyone who can provide useful information that  could result in the arrest of suspects.

A director of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) in Surigao del Norte, lawyer Ingemar Macarine, strongly condemned the two gun attacks.

Canoy, incidentally, is an uncle of Macarine’s.

He called on President Duterte to ensure that the cases are solved, that the killers are brought to justice, and to stop the “senseless killings,” and put an end to the “culture of impunity.”
