Mayor Joseph Peñas summoned members of the city peace and order council and the city risk reduction and management council (CDRRMC) to join the contingency planning workshop for crisis mitigation at the CAP Auditorium for a day-long activity.

Peñas expressed concerned over the reports from government agencies regarding the presence of an active fault which he identified to be situated in Barangay San Jose running 14 kilometers towards the Southern part of the city.

“We know for a fact that at this point in time nobody could predict an earthquake. All we could do is to create a crisis management committee that will serve as response group when the need arises,” Peñas said.

The mayor has assured committee members the city government will procure additional rescue vehicles, ambulances, and rescue equipment to speed up the response time.

“We have a little fleet of old ambulances which we could no longer rely on. It’s overused due to many of rescue missions. We have to buy new ones,” Peñas said.

Marcelino Niemes, Digos CDRRMC action officer told committee members the fault was discovered in year 2000. It was named Tambulan Fault whose line traverse Sulop town in Davao del Sur down to Sta. Maria, Davao Occidental.
