Iligan police director Senior Supt. Leonyroy Ga on Thursday said Eyemen Canulo Alonto was charged with carnapping,  kidnapping,  illegal arms and explosives possession before the local prosecutor’s office. The suspect has been detained in Iligan City.

Alonto, according to Ga, was with two other suspects–Azam Ampatua Taher and one Wowie–who were killed during the Feb. 24 joint police and military operations carried out after a woman named Stephanie Adiong complained that the group took her vehicle.

Ga said there were evidence that the group had planned on assassinating National Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa when he was in Marawi City last month.

He said the slain Taher was also behind the Feb. 16 ambush of a mayor and a corporal in Marawi, a Jan. 25 kidnapping of two people, a carnapping case, and a beheading of two Iligan-based sawmill workers in Butig, Lanao del Sur in 2016.
