POLICE director for northern Mindanao Agripino Javier has rejected a call for a loyalty check in the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) that was made over fears that some law enforcers have links to terrorist organizations.

“No need, but we must be watchful,” said Chief Supt. Agripino Javier of the call made by Councilor Romeo Calizo.

Calizo, chairman of the city council police and public safety committee, earlier said the Cocpo should start a cleansing process from top to bottom so as to ensure that no member of the city police force has links to the Abu Sayyaf or similar organizations.

Calizo’s call was in response to the arrest of a suspected Abu Sayyaf bomber Reneer Lou Dogon and Supt. Maria Christina Nobleza in Bohol last month. The two are alleged lovers.

Camp Alagar spokesman Supt. Lemwel Gonda said there was no need for police offices in northern Mindanao to undergo a loyalty check because that is already being done on a regular basis.

According to Gonda, Camp Alagar’s intelligence division has created a  counter  intelligence section to conduct the regular loyalty checks.

“It is part of  our campaign on  internal cleansing in  the PNP,” Gonda said. (nitz arancon)
