POLICE killed nine robbery suspects during an exchange of firepower along the boundaries of  barangays Cabinti and Balintawak  in Ozamiz City at around 3:45 pm on Wednesday.

Authorities also arrested six other suspects, including a police officer, according to Camp Alagar spokesman Supt. Lemwel Gonda.

Gonda identified those slain as Francisco Manzano, Joel Espina Mira, Jerry Manzano, Romeo Libaton, Lito Manisan, Alfie Mahusay, Anjun Simene and Consorcio Rubio Sr.. Another dead man remained unidentified at presstime.

Gonda identified the arrested suspects: Jonner Antipuesto Libatog, Laureto Tamac Ugmad, Janice Ugmad Manzano, Carmelita Manzano, Monaliza Ugmad, and PO2  Diosdado Amarillo Hinoctan Jr., a member of the Tangub police station  in Misamis Occidental.

He said the gunbattle started while members of the Ozamiz police and the Misamis Occidental police’s Public Safety Company were carrying out a joint operation because of a series of shootings and robbery cases in Ozamiz.

He said the police officers were about to check on the group of 15 men when they suddenly fired shots at the law enforcers.

Police found at the encounter site seven firearms that included shotguns, caliber .45 pistols,  caliber .38 revolvers, Armalite rifle, and ammunition.

Police claimed they also found suspected shabu,  P70 thousand in cash, and pieces of jewelry.

He said those arrested were detained at the Ozamiz police  station, and charges were being prepared at presstime.
