A LAWYER on Friday filed a petition for a writ of habeas corpus against the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, and other law enforcement groups that were involved in the arrest of former Marawi mayor Fahad Salic in Villanueva town, Misamis Oriental last week.

Lawyer Dale Bryan Mordeno’s petition, if granted by a court, would compel authorities to “produce the body” of Salic who is said to have been placed under detention at the CIDG office in Camp Evangelista.

He said authorities should present Salic before the court this week.

Mordeno questioned why no rebellion case was filed against Salic until now when that was supposedly the reason why the former mayor was ordered arrested by Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.

“Yet they continue to detain Salic. That is a violation of the civil  liberties guaranteed  under the 1987 Constitution notwithstanding the martial law  declaration,” Mordeno said.

There has been very little information about Salic, and the CIDG has kept the former mayor away from media. A martial law command center at Camp Evangelista was created supposedly to provide information.

Camp Evangelista spokesman Capt. Joe Patrick Martinez said only the command center has the authority to provide information to the media pertaining to all martial lawelated matters.
