THE National Telecom-munications Commission in northern Mindanao said a task force is waiting for Mayor Oscar Moreno’s go-signal for them to remove dangling cables and decrepit poles here, an official of the commission said.

“We already made some untangling activities in the previous years but now it (has) become (worse) than before. Hulat kami sa order gikan sa mayor kay kung amo kining kuhaon basin mapasakaan kami (og) sumbong sa mga tag-iya sa wires,” said NTC regional director Ted Buenaventura.

He said the removal of dangling wires along the streets is not under the purview of NTC but under a task force created by Moreno.

The NTC has been tasked to draft an executive order for the implementation of the ordinance.

He said an executive order which was already reviewed by the City Legal Office is now awaiting the signature of Moreno for the immediate implementation in removing all electrical cables and posts which have been found and become obstruction to public utilities.

Among the communication agencies that were already informed on the plan include Bayantel, Sky Cable, Telicphil, Globe, Cagayan Electric Power and Light Company, Misamis Oriental Telephone System, Misamis Oriental Rural Electric Service Cooperative-I, and the Philippine Long Distance Telephone.

“Ni-grabe lang ang problema sa cable niadtong una sa uso pa ang kawat because we are using high-grade copper wire but this time medyo low class na ang gamit sa cable and then wala na kaayo’y mamalitay,” Buenavista said.

Councilor George Goking asked city hall to act on the problem, saying it would be part of the local government’s “housekeeping” functions.

Goking said the dangling wires and cables could result in accidents.

Goking said  telecommunications companies should install poles at least 25 feet or seven meters high and make it a standard practice.

He said he is drafting amendments to city ordinances related to communications which was passed 10 years ago. He said an ordinance provided that overhead wires should be underground.

He said he would also ask the Association of Barangay Councils to make an inventory of idle overhead wires and decrepit posts in their areas.
