MAOIST guerrillas ambushed soldiers in the hinterlands of Agusan del Sur over the weekend with the latter claiming to have killed one soldier.

In an e-mailed statement yesterday, Ka Malem Mabini, spokesperson of the New People’s Army-North Central Mindanao, said members of the NPA-Western Agusan del Norte-Agusan del Sur subegional command “Wanas” waylaid soldiers belonging to the Army’s 26th Infantry Battalion near their patrol base at Comota, La Paz in Agusan del Sur at 8:05 am on Sunday.

Mabini said they received reports from Wanas Command claiming that a soldier was “killed in action.”

“The NPA team confiscated one newly issued R4 assault rifle and quickly withdrew to safe grounds after the military action,” Mabini’s statement reads. (cbc)
