In a session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan early this week, Engr. Carmelo Enrique  Libot, Provincial Director, Department of Interior and Local Government for Lanao del Norte told the members of provincial council that their department was “not consulted” by the National Police Commission in its resolution which clipped the deputization powers of local chief executives.

They should have been consulted, Libot said. But Napolcom did not. Nor was the police, he added. It just rushed to issue such resolution, he said. There was no consultations with the local officials concerned, either.

Libot said he cannot immediately answer such query from Lanao del Norte officials as the DILG really did not know how the Napolcom arrived at such decision.

To recall, the Napolcom on June 8 issued Resolution no. 207-334 and 207-335A approving the withdrawal of deputization issued against seven governors and 132 mayors among them, Gov. Imelda Quibranza Dimaporo of Lanao Norte, as well as some  mayors of said province, which also included Lanao Sur, Maguindanao, Basilan, Tawi-tawi for “engaging in acts inimical to national security or which negate the effectiveness of the peace and order campaign of the government; and providing material support to criminal elements.”

Though it was approved June 8, it was only released last week, Libot said.

Dimaporo earlier said that the resolution is unfair, sweeping, and anti-Muslim. It was learned that the Sangguniang Panlalawigan has also invited the Napolcom but it did not send any representative.
