THE Roads and Traffic Administration opened the 86-year old Ysalina Bridge to vehicular traffic yesterday morning after it underwent a week of repairs.
It was opened to motorists’ use at around 8 am after the Department of Public Works and Highways announced that it was done in giving the bridge a facelift.
The old bridge near city hall, also referred to as “Carmen Bridge,” was closed to vehicular traffic from July 10 to July 16 on orders from Mayor Oscar Moreno to allow the DPWH to do retrofitting, water-proofing and overlay works as part of a bigger P37-million rehabilitation program for the nearly a century-old bridge.
The bridge was named after the late Misamis Oriental Gov. Paciencio Ysalina who served from 1951 to 1954. (nitz arancon)
