Iligan City — A member of a notorious criminal gang was shot dead Monday evening.
Police Station 4 at Tubod under Station Commander Senior Insp. Oswaldo Reotita Tiongson identified the victim as Joey Bagares Canalita, 33, married and a resident of Purok Green Valley, barangay Ubaldo Laya, this city.
SPO2 Winston Daroy and SPO1 Jess Bigornia said at around 8:28 pm, the victim was at his small variety store at when two unidentified men approached him inside the store and drew their pistols and shot him twice to the head. After the incident, suspects fled towards an unknown direction while victim was brought to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The victim was listed in the station’s watch list, as the 50th and was known member of the Mapandi Brothers Criminal Gang operating in Misamis Oriental, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte, and Lanao del Sur.
Recovered from the crime scene were two .45 caliber fired bullet cases. Follow up investigations are still being conducted by the police.
