Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano said Misamis Oriental is the first province to launch the free Wi-Fi access in northern Mindanao.

“Whether we are ame-nable or not, [the Internet] is already part of our daily endeavors. Not only for the few but most of us ride the advent of technology. It is the best and quickest way to connect to our loved ones, locally and abroad. It has been the norm of the entire world. It is actually our main purpose for launching the free WiFi access for Misamisnons and Kagay-anons,” said Emano during the launch.

Emano lauded PLDT-Smart group led by Jimmy Chu for partnering with the capitol for the benefit of Internet users “especially the less privileged who can’t afford.” He said  they can now have Internet access within the the capitol compound.

He said it would also benefit those who need to use the Internet to secure clearances from the National Bureau of Investigation, and those in the Northern Mindanao Medical Center.

But he said work has to be done in order to prevent children from having access to websites that are not suitable for minors.

“One thing I assure the people of Misamis Oriental, no [capitol] employee will become lazy due to the free Internet access. We do actually have a connection already for our own consumption. But this time, it’s for the general public to enjoy,” Emano said.
