DIGOS City — More than a hundred market vendors displaced by a fire last year will soon be back to their respective stalls after the city government secured the money to construct a new one.

Mayor Joseph Peñas has confirmed that the construction will begin soon since the bids and awards committee is on the process of bidding out the project.

“It would not take a longer time. The construction will commence this year or early next year,” Peñas said.

The city government has earmarked at least P14.5 million from the savings of its local income this year.

The mayor has asked affected stall occupants to wait a little while as the local government is trying its best to make their wish of returning to their respective stalls in the soonest time possible.

Some vendors are forced to use the second floor of the mega market located just beside the charred structure. There are also stall occupants who temporarily sought refuge to nearby private buildings just to continue their trade.
