Project engineer Leowald Pecore said the decision is to move it to Nov. 24 to allow Public Works Secretary Mark Villar inaugurate the newly completed four-lane project.

Pecore said Villar would not be able to inaugurate the project on Friday given that his hands are full because of the Asean meeting.

City hall earlier disclosed plans to open the new road on Friday.

Pecore however said the DPWH may open the Gusa-Agora section of the coastal road for “dry run” on Friday.

“We are trying out best,” he said.

Meanwhile, DPWH, Task Force Hapsay Dalan and the police started clearing operations on Agora-Valenzuela Road in Lapasan ahead of the opening of the new coastal road.

They started removing illegal structures like shanties, illegally parked vehicles, among others.

Some 13 owners of concrete structures, and shanties voluntarily demolished their houses without showing any resistance.

“OK ra mi nga pahawaon kay dili man pud ni among yuta pero masayangan gyud mi kay dugay na baya mi nagpuyo dinhi,” said Victoria Lim, teary eyed.

Task Force chairman Jose Edgardo Uy said the owners of the illegal structures were notified ahead of the scheduled clearing operations.

He said they even had a meeting on Sunday.

The displaced families would be temporarily sheltered at an evacuation center in Barangay Indahag.

City hall would provide them a relocation site. The City Social Welfare and Development office said they would also receive financial and food aid.
