On Tuesday, the city council under Vice Mayor Ruth Guingona approved the plan of the local government to secure the loan to buy a payloader, dump trucks, road roller and backhoe.

The planned loan was approved through an ordinance authored by Councilor Myrna Motoomull.

Other councilors who favored the plan were Jerome Mercado, Mike Paderanga, April Rose Vosotros, Estoriano Mandahinog, and Avelino Bernaldez.

Those who were against the plan were councilors Robert de Lara and Mellienette Mercado.

Councilors  Winfred Militante and Marlon Kho were on leave when it was approved.

Councilor Roy Aniscal neither voted in favor nor against the plan but he questioned the loan scheme. It was unclear why he opted to abstain rather than vote against it.

Aniscal pointed out that city hall has savings amounting to P836 million and therefore, there was no need for a loan.

“Nganong mag-engage man tag loan para heavy equipment nga naa man tay kuarta naka time deposit diha sa duha ka bangko Land Bank ug Philippine National Bank nga nag kantidad tanan sa P836 million?” he asked rhetorically.

Aniscal also said that all of city hall’s infrastracture projects were contracted out and so, there was no need for city hall to buy heavy equipment.

“Sayang man gud ang kuwarta nga gi loan diin ang suidad obligado mobayad sa 5.25 percent matag tuig,” Aniscal said.
