Napolcom’s move is reported to be due to alleged drug links of local chief executives in Misamis Occidental, and other areas in Mindanao and even in Luzon.

There are 25 mayors and one governor stripped of these powers, it was learned.

Among those stripped of their powers in a Napolcom resolution were mayors Crisinciano Mahilac of Sinacaban, Michael Gutierrez of Lopez Jaena, Donjie Animas of Sapang Dalaga, Jason Almonte of Oroquieta City, Juanidy Vina of  Concepcion, Ezel Villanueva of Calamba, all of Misamis Occidental.

Also included in the list is Zamboanga del Sur Governor Antonio Cerilles, while a South Cotabato mayor Pablo Martinez, who was also included reacted to said move as he said he had exerted all efforts to clear his name.

According to Napolcom Chief Information Officer Cristina Tan, the order came about after the Napolcom decided on the matter on Oct. 30.

The resolution, which was signed by Department of Interior and Local Government Officer-in-Charge Catalino Cuy, was released to reporters this week.
