POLICE yesterday said they were set on pressing murder charges against a man who allegedly struck and killed a worker with a piece of wood inside Cogon market early this week.

Authorities arrested the suspect, Roger Soltones of Barangay Balulang, following the discovery of the body of 30-year old Noel Cabatingan at the second level of Cogon market on Thursday.

Cabatingan’s body was found on the roof of one of the stores of the public market. Police said the victim received heavy blows to the face and back of the head.

Soltones was identified as the last person seen with Cabatingan on a drinking  binge on Wednesday, according to  Insp. Jason Sto. Domingo, deputy chief of the Cogon police.

SPO1 Neil de las Alas said Soltones admitted to the crime but maintained that the killing was unplanned.

Soltones claimed the victim became unruly and violent, forcing him to attack him with a “dos por dos.”

He said he attacked Cabatingan at the height of an argument. (hussein macatoro)
