CITY hall has already exceeded by P182 million the revenues it generated in 2017 during the period for the renewal of business permits.
City treasurer Ramon Mendoza said the local government already collected P552 million as of Jan. 20.
The collections are still P48 million short of city hall’s P600-million target for this year but it is P182 million more than what the local government collected during the same period in 2017.
“Hopefully, we can collect more than P600 million by Jan. 31,” said Mendoza.
City hall collected P370 million during the business permit renewal period last year.
He noted a 35-percent increase in new business establishments that secured permits as of Jan. 20.
On Monday, the city council moved the deadline for the renewal of business permits from Jan. 20 to Jan. 31. The extension was approved on the same day the city council approved a P5.5-billion budget for city hall this year.
He said for this year, city hall’s aim was to collect P500 million to P600 million during the renewal of business permits.
Mendoza said some 10,100 business establishments in the city have renewed or secured business permits as of Jan. 20. He said the number of establishments could reach 20 thousand by Jan. 31.
“We are still expecting more new business permit applications,” he said.
According to Mendoza, the processing time at city hall’s Business One-Stop Shop is from 8 am until 7 pm, from Mondays to Fridays. It is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 8 am to 5 pm.
Mendoza reminded businessmen about the Jan. 31 deadline, saying city hall would strictly impose a 25-percent surcharge and two-percent penalty on those who would fail to beat the deadline.
