ARCHITECT Rey Galua’s lawyer yesterday moved to keep his client out of jail even as he asked a regional court to summon two physicians to speak about the accused’s heart condition.

Lawyer Arturo Ubaub, a former provincial prosecutor, asked Judge Henry Damasing of the Regional Trial Court Branch 24 to summon the physicians to the next court hearing on Feb. 7.

Ubaub identified the physicians as Dr. Roy Sasil and Dr. Debra Urbina, both cardiovascular specialists at the Northern  Mindanao  Medical Center.

“Ako man ang defense lawyer so ako ang mo-present sa korte sa mga doktor ni Galua aron sila  na ang  mosulti kon dapat bang  ipabilin o dili nga hospital arrest akong client,” said Ubaub.

Since Galua’s arrest in Jan. 9, the architect has not spent a night behind bars. On the day of his arrest, he was rushed to the Polymedic Plaza allegedly because of a heart ailment. On Monday, he was again rushed to the NMMC after he complained of chest pains, about three hours after he was brought to the Lumbia jail for detention from the Polymedic Plaza.

Due to the motion to summon the physicians, Damasing did not rule yet on Ubaub’s previous motion to allow Galua to stay in the hospital.

The architect has been called by the police as a “person of interest” in the investigation into the Dec. 2, 2017 murder of University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines president Ricardo Rotoras. (nitz arancon)
