PRO-LIFE groups here took part in nationwide protests on Saturday  to dramatize their stand against extrajudicial killings tied to President Duterte’s so-called “war on drugs” even as they called on his administration to respect human life.

The groups, led by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines, also called on the President to lift his martial law declaration in Mindanao.

They staged a “walk for life” along with Roman Catholic Archbishop Antonio Ledesma.

Over 500 members of the Knights of Columbus, Commission for Lay Ecclesial Ministry Formation of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, Social Action Center, Sangguniang Laiko ng Pilipinas and other pro-life groups took to the streets in downtown Cagayan de Oro starting at 6 am Saturday.

“Our goal is a simultaneous ‘walk for life’ aron among  ipadungog ni President Duterte, nga ang simbahan, wala na mahimo-ot sa walay undang nga extrajudicial killings, ug dapat na kini undangon sa gobyerno kay mahinongdanon kaayo ang kinabuhi sa tawo,” said Social Action Center coordinator Carl Cabaraban.

Cabaraban said that the Catholic Church will not stop reminding the President that several innocent people were killed in his ongoing “war on drugs.”

“Dili mahimo nga magtanga ang Simbahan niining walay undang nga pagdagmal sa kinabuhi sa tawo,” said Cabaraban.

He said they were also protesting the reintroduction of the death penalty and other bills in Congress that they consider to be “anti-life” such as the proposals on abortion, divorce, same-sex marriage and even the lowering of the age of child birth nominees to nine years old.

Cabaraban said a series of forums in different areas of the city would be conducted as part of the fresh pro-life campaign. (nitz arancon)
