ILIGAN City — Some 53 houses were destroyed by a fire in Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte over the weekend. The victims are now staying at an evacuation center.
Annabelle Barazon, one of the fire victims, told a local radio yesterday that the fire happened around 3 pm Sunday at Purok 1, Barangay Lapayan, Kauswagan town.
Barazon said the fire started in a neighbor’s house occupied by one Yvette Aumentar which was located two houses way from hers.
Firefighters had a hard time quelling the fire since the responding fire truck from Kolambugan rammed into a coconut tree. The accident caused injuries to the driver and the fire fighters.
Barazon said her neighbors used garden hoses to put out the fire but the water pressure was low.
