PDEA accused seven barangay officials — three barangay chairpersons and four barangay councilors — from Ozamiz City.

The officials are from barangays  Tinago, Kinuman Norte, Carmen Annex, Malaubang, Cogon and Catadman in Ozamiz City.

The PDEA also listed three barangay officials in barangays Poblacion, Hinaplanon, and Sto Niño Iligan City, and another one from Aloran, Misamis Occidental.

The names of the alleged narco-politicians in Region 10 are in the list released by PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino in April 30, according to Villanueva.

Aquino’s list include 207  barangay officials, 90 of whom are barangay chairperson while 117 are barangay councilors.

Villanueva said the barangay officials in Region 10 who are in the PDEA list are subjects for anti-drug operations.

He said PDEA was also validating information about 22 other barangay officials in Region 10 who are suspected to be involved in illegal drug activities.

Villanueva said the suspects could also be charged with dereliction of duty over their alleged inaction against illegal drug activities in their respective villages. (nitz arancon)
