THE city council gave another group planning to distribute water in the city its go-ahead.

The green light, given by the city’s legislature on Monday, was the second since it expressed its approval in favor of the plan of the Metro Cagayan de Oro Water Service Cooperative Federation to compete with the nearly five-decade-old Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) two weeks ago.

The latest endorsement was made in favor of a firm called South Balibago Resources Inc. that, like Metro Cagayan de Oro, is planning on developing water resources, process and deliver potable water in the city’s 1st District.

The resolution was authored by Councilor Teodulfo  Lao, chairman of the city council’s committee on public utilities, who said a third player would address the problem on “insufficient water supply” in the city.

The resolution states that the city council interposes no objection to the non-inclusive proposal of South Balibago Resources to establish another or a parallel water system in the city.

Two weeks ago, the city council approved a resolution to strongly endorse the proposal of Metro Cagayan de Oro to build its own facility and distribute potable water, initially, in barangays Bulua, Iponan and parts of Patag.

The cooperative has plans of expanding to Tagoloan and Opol towns in Misamis Oriental. (cli)
