Mohammad Agakhan Sharief, president of Khadija Mohammad Islamic Academy based here, said there were about 10,000 to 12,000 internally displaced persons affected by the five-month Marawi siege who received at least two kilos of beef each family for free.

Some evacuees from the ground zero helped in the preparation of meat for distribution to thousands of displaced families who are still awaiting for the proposed rehabilitation of Marawi City.

“This is my firts time in the Philippines to meet several brothers whom we shared humanity not only for Muslims but all communities. I am confident the Marawi will rise again in peace,” Hasip Bingol, representative of Turkey’s Care Solidarity and Development Association.

The Islamic Relief Philippines also distributed Qurbani meatpacks in Sarimanok Marawi City on Wednesday, while the Asia Foundation Incorprated also provided meat packs for evacuees who settled in the Molundo town.

Eid’l Adha, or Feast of Sacrifice, honors Abraham’s willingness to slay his son Ishmael at Allah’s order. But when Abraham was about to kill the boy, the angel Gabriel appeared and stopped him, saying he had proved his love for God. A goat was sacrificed in the boy’s stead.

The story is memorialized through the sacrifice of animals. (with reports from mindanews)
