CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao — Five local government units of Maguindanao handed over 35 loose firearms to 40th Infantry Battalion in a ceremony held at its Headquarters in Brgy Zapakan, Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao recently.

The firearms came from the municipalities of Radjah Buayan, Sultan sa Barongis, Shariff Aguak, Shariff Saydona Mustapha and Mamasapano as part of the effort of the military in firearms reductions program of the government.

The ceremony was witnessed by 6th Infantry Division Commander Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana and Rajah Buayan Mayor Zamzamin Ampatuan.

The firearms surrendered were six Garrand rifles, eight M14 rifles, one M16 rifle, one M79 rifle, one rocket propelled greanade, one K3, one 60m mortar, eight shotguns, five Barretts, two KG9, and one grease gun.

“To prevent terrorism in Maguindanao, we need to work together to address the security challenges in the region.” Sobejana said. (with reports from 6id)
